Unique Offerings for Students
As a high school student, how would you like to graduate with a year or more of college already completed? As the parent of a high school student, how would you like your child to graduate with a year or more of college credits that were tuition-free? AAEC South Mountain Early College High School offers just that.
AAEC, located at 20th and Baseline, is a charter high school that has been serving the South Mountain community for 15 years. The high school’s unique model affords students the opportunity to attend college classes on the South Mountain Community College campus while they attend high school. And, students don’t pay for the college classes. Some students earn enough credits to graduate with an Associate’s Degree by the time they leave high school; most students earn 30 to 40 credits, and all students earn at least 17 hours of college credit that is transferrable to any Arizona college or university. Along with all the standard high school classes, AAEC has specialized programs in the biosciences, veterinary science, and agribusiness disciplines. Students can take various classes in the fine arts at SMCC and world language offerings include Spanish, Mandarin, and Arabic to name a few. But school isn’t all about studying for the 375 9th – 12th graders. Students have the opportunity to join several clubs, play intramural sports and even attend prom at the Hilton Squaw Peak Resort.
AAEC students consistently achieve at the highest level, this year earning the school an “A” rating from the Arizona Department of Education and an “Arizona Higher Performing School” rating from the National Center for Educational Achievement .
AAEC offers students a unique high school experience with college credits as a part of the bargain!
AAEC has a few seats available for the Spring 2012 semester for current high school students and is accepting applications for the 2012-13 school year. For more information, contact Cindy Erwin at HYPERLINK “mailto:email@example.com”firstname.lastname@example.org or 602-323-9890.
