City Dedicating Renovation at Hermosa


Skatepark HermosaThe City of Phoenix recently celebrated the renovation of the 26-acre Hermoso Park, 2030 E. Southern Ave. at a dedication ceremony in November.


“This is a big day for the residents of District 8 because we are celebrating a new commitment to the area by bringing back-to-life one of our city’s older parks,” Councilman Michael Johnson said. “Children will now have safe equipment to play on and everyone will be able to enjoy the new state-of-the-art recreation center.  I love the city employees who made this happen for the residents of District 8 – because you know, I love District 8!”




Renovation project improvements include:


  • A renovated 4,000 square-foot Faye Gray Recreation Center in the park
  • New playground with shade
  • New lighted skate plaza
  • New lighted sand volleyball court
  • New lighted basketball courts
  • Four new ramadas
  • New restrooms at picnic area




Renovated restrooms at softball fields


  • New area lighting
  • Repaved parking lot
  • New landscaping


     The project cost $4.2 million and was funded with 2006 Parks Bonds and proceeds from the Phoenix Parks and Preserve Initiative.
