The Farm at South Mountain
Farm District is a unique area in the South Mountain Village which traditionally has been dedicated to agriculture. Many of us can still remember a Baseline
Road set ablaze by the flower farms that lined its two lanes; or, the citrus orchards and their road side stands which provided green year round and seemed to stretch endlessly. Not that many years ago your neighbor might have a horse or cow. Every other home had chickens. I had goats. That sounds a lot like all of
the Southside in days gone by. But there is still an area in our community where agriculture, gardens, livestock and nurseries are the rule and not the exception. This is a neighborhood where many of the folks make their living from living things. We will call that area Farm District. Its boundaries are 48th Street to 16th Street, East to West, and the River Bottom to Baseline Rd., North to South. The Farm at South Mountain hopes to highlight our friends and neighbors in this area, and to introduce this unique area to the entire South Mountain Village.
Dirt from the Farm. The Food. The Gardens. The Experience!
Many visitors when they venture to the Farm at South Mountain never explore any further than the delicious sandwiches at Farm Kitchen, or the country style breakfasts at Morning Glory Café. But really, it is a delightful 10 acre
property in the heart of Phoenix – an urban oasis that hosts three award-winning restau- rants serving breakfast, lunch or dinner, an amazing organic garden, a farmers market, a modern market featuring local art and unique items, a greenhouse that contains an exceptionally rare succulent collection, and a healing therapist that resides in the Retreat just north of Morning Glory.
When you are strolling down the lane to the West end of the Farm, you will be passing through a five acre pecan grove. To your left you may notice a small citrus orchard. To your right you will pass by one our signature event venues, the Canopy in the Groves. Here and in five other locations on the Farm, guests can enjoy a corporate retreat by the organic gardens at the Artist Studio, savor lunch under the pecan trees sitting at picnic tables with a menu provided by Farm Kitchen, or enjoy the cuisine of Santa Barbara Catering at any of your events.
Soon our newest venue will be completed. Guests will be able to enjoy our magnifi- cent sculptural stone wall (including a dry stacked stone arch 12 feet tall!) a great venue to host weddings and corporate events alongside our Le Panyol wood burning stone oven imported from rural France and covered with the same stones that made South Mountain a billion years ago.
Whether it is Yoga in the grove, a trip to the chicken coop with the kids or a roman- tic dinner under the stars, The Farm is a beautiful backdrop to your experience.
Imagine! All of this is in your backyard.
