Laveen School Tops in the State
Question: Where is the highest ranked elementary school in the entire State of Arizona located? Answer: Laveen Public Schools. Vista del Sur Traditional School in the Laveen Elementary School District has earned the distinction of being the number one elementary school, based on points earned through the Arizona Department of Education’s A-F Letter Grade Accountability System for 2012. Vista earned an “A” letter grade and 175 points, the highest point total earned from any elementary or middle school, public or charter, in Arizona.
In addition to earning the “A” label, Vista del Sur has also been recognized by the National Center for Educational Achievement (NCEA) as a “Higher Performing School,” and has achieved the stature of being one of Arizona’s Title I Reward Schools.
Vista del Sur is a school of choice where parents decide to enroll their children in lieu of their home school or other school options. Vista has a student-centered environment, with an emphasis on direct instruction and high expectations for students’ success. The school implements an accelerated curriculum – one year above grade level – to challenge students to perform at high academic levels.
Since it opened its doors in 2007-2008 academic year, Vista del Sur has increased its enrollment from 360 students its first year to 824 for the 2012-2013 school year. It is one of seven schools in the Laveen Elementary School District.
Vista del Sur Traditional School accepts students from Laveen Elementary District schools as well as other public and private schools. Residents of the Laveen School District have admission priority. Admission from other public and private schools is based on available classroom space. Vista del Sur will be accepting open enrollment applications for the 2013-2014 school year starting January 7, 2013.
