Pioneer and Military Park Celebrates Memorial Day

Honor those who have given their lives for their country at the 23rd Annual Memorial Day Observance at historic Pioneer and Military Memorial Park located at 14th and Jefferson avenues on Monday, May 29 at 9:30 a.m.  The public is invited to wear their vintage clothing and join representatives from many of the valley’s historical organizations.
After the ceremony, guests will have the opportunity to tour the 107 year-old Smurthwaite House and the seven historic Phoenix cemeteries that make up the park.  Refreshments and children’s craft activities will be offered.
Memorial Day was established in 1868 as an official day to pay respect and honor those who had fought and died in America’s wars.

The Memorial Day celebration is co-sponsored by the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department and the Pioneers’ Cemetery Association.  For more information call 602-534-1262.
