Students Receive Diplomas at South Mountain Community College

A total of 172 students walked in the 26th annual Commencement ceremony of South Mountain Community College on Friday, May 12.
The guest speaker was Arizona House Representative Ben Miranda (Democrat, District 16) and theme for the commencement was “South Mountain Community College – Anchored in Excellence: Navigating to Great Heights in a Challenging World.”

In all, 296 degrees and certificates were presented. (Some students receive more than one degree or certificate).  The 2006 graduating class includes conferring of 113 Associate of Art degrees; 78 Associate of General Studies degrees; 44 Associate of Applied Science degrees; 22 Associate of Science degrees; 18 Associate of Business Degrees.
Also included were: three Academic Certificates in Storytelling, and 17 Certificates of Completion in these areas: five in Networking Administration/CISCO; four in Early Childhood; two in Internet Design and Development; two in General Telecommunications; one in Cable Telecommunications; two in Basic Behavioral Health; and one in Supervision and Management I.
In all, 112 students graduated with distinction.
Three Valedictorians gave brief talks. They were:

Delbert Cole, who will earn two degrees – Associate of Business/General Requirements and Associate in Arts/Honors Program.
Amber Meade, Associate of Business/General Requirements.
Danielle Morales, who will earn three degrees – Associate in Arts, Associate of General Studies, and Associate in Science/Honors Program.
