Girls For A Change Fundraiser Hosts Governor Napolitano
Girls For A Change (GFC), the leading non-profit organization for urban youth, today announced they will hold a fundraiser with special guest Governor Napolitano on August 28, 2006 at the Paradise Valley home of Deb Carstens. This event will raise funds to support the 2006-2007 program year of Girls For A Change in Arizona.
GFC catalyzes professional women to support urban middle and high school girls to become social change makers and innovators, by empowering them to design, lead, fund and implement social change projects that tackle problems they face in their neighborhoods. The vision of the organization is that girls who are engaged in social change and problem solving in their neighborhood will continue on to leadership in many other areas of their lives.
Girls For A Change launched in Phoenix one year ago after six successful years in the Bay Area of California. GFC comes to Arizona with the support of many local community members, elected officials, corporations, and foundations.
"Girls For A Change is committed to giving all girls the opportunity to fly, the opportunity to invent, and the opportunity to experience the spark that comes with seeing your own idea take form and make a difference," said Whitney Smith, Co-CEO, Girls For A Change. "We are dedicated to ensuring that the young women of Maricopa County have an equal playing field to be the next generation of leaders in Arizona, the US, and around the globe."
Deb Carstens, local philanthropist and community activist, says she’s "totally wowed." "Girls for A Change is doing something rather revolutionary … they bring urban girls together to discuss issues affecting their communities. They ask the girls what their lives are like, what they worry about, and how they want their life and community to be different. Their answers will astound you, possibly change your life!" Deb adds, "This will be an emotional evening."
This event will also be the opportunity for the community to meet Alexandra Zavala, Girls For A Change Phoenix, Executive Director. Most recently Alex created and managed the first-ever Hispanic Outreach Program for Planned Parenthood of Central and Northern Arizona and co-founded the Hispanic Outreach Alliance — a network of more than one hundred outreach professionals in the Phoenix area. She also sits on the Phoenix Women’s Commission. Having grown up in the Valley of the Sun, Alex is dedicated to effecting social change for the betterment of her community and is especially dedicated to the empowerment of women and girls.
For more information about the event or to purchase a ticket to attend, please contact Whitney Smith at 602-677-9428 or email at email@example.com. The cost of the tickets is $100.
