Raven Golf Club at South Mountain
For the third time since it opened in 1995, the Raven Golf Club at South Mountain has been sold.
In June, CNL Income Group, a real estate investment trust headquartered in Orlando, Fla., acquired the Raven Golf Club at South Mountain from Intrawest Golf Holdings Inc. The property will be leased to and managed by Tucson-based I.R.I. Golf Group, LLC, which owns and operates 19 golf facilities in Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Washington.
“The location of the Raven Golf Club at South Mountain and its commitment to golf excellence make this acquisition a tremendous addition to our portfolio,” said Rudy Anderson, vice president of investments at CNL Income Corp., the advisor to CNL Income Properties. “I.R.I. has grown into one of the most experienced and qualified course investment and management companies in the country. We look forward to working with top operators like I.R.I. to continue providing high-quality golf experiences.”
According to Ryan Barmore, sales and marketing director at the Raven Golf Club at South Mountain, minimal changes will be visible from the public’s perspective. Modifications on the course include replacing the disintegrating mulch on holes 10-18 with the red, crushed cinder that is already arranged throughout the front nine holes. Presentation on the practice facility will also change slightly. As well, a remodeling project on the banquet facility, which will expand it from 2,500 square feet to 3,000, is set to begin soon. The modifications will be complete before the start of the holiday season.
“We’re the perfect site for groups – a fun, manageable course with on-site catering and a reception area that can accommodate up to a 170 people, and more if you want to use the grass area,” Barmore added.
Recently, the golf club started making a push to attract people who don’t normally golf at the course to its dining facility, the Raven Grill. Voted the top golf restaurant by the Arizona Republic, the eatery offers a selection of appetizers, entrees and beverages, and is open from sunrise until 7:30 p.m. each evening.
In addition, the club just started offering memberships. Single, family and corporate memberships are available. Prices begin at $3,000, and there are no taxes, food and beverage minimums, or monthly dues.
“All three are an incredible value for what we offer,” Barmore remarked.
Encompassing 160 acres, Raven Golf Club at South Mountain is the only 4.5-star golf course south of the airport and was ranked the No. 1 golf course for guest service by Golf Digest. Designed by Gary Panks and U.S. Open champion David Graham, it was built in 1995 by moving 700,000 cubic yards of desert soil and importing nearly 6,000 mature pine trees from Georgia.
